NSPCC Scotland is calling on supporters to join their team in the Kiltwalk to raise funds for services such as Childline and the Speak Out Stay Safe programme.

With four events across Scotland, and three distances to choose from, anyone can take part. Supporters can sign up to Kiltwalks in Glasgow on 30 April, Aberdeen on 4 June, Dundee on 20 August and Edinburgh on 17 September.there is a choice of The Mighty Stride, which involves walking up to 26 miles for those looking for the ultimate Kiltwalk experience, The Big Stroll of up to 15 miles for those looking for an intermediate challenge and The Wee Wander, which is suitable for the whole family and five to eight miles long.

All the money raised will help fund NSPCC Scotland programmes such as its school service, which delivers safeguarding assemblies and workshops to 4-11 year olds in primary schools across the country. The sessions help the children to understand what abuse is and how to get help if they need it. The charity’s Speak Out Stay Safe schools service programme has already visited more than 3,204 schools and reached 161,155 children in Scotland.

Michael Ross, 29, from Dumbarton is taking part in his eighth Kiltwalk this year. He said: “It’s such a fantastic event. My first Kiltwalk was to support a good friend who was recovering from a heart attack. He had been a marathon runner and wanted to try the Kiltwalk as part of his rehabilitation. It was a great experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it, so I’ve never stopped.

“I think it’s wonderful that the NSPCC does so much for young people in Scotland, much of which goes unnoticed.

“In the current climate, it is unacceptable that children in every town, village and city are subject to abuse, neglect and poverty. Previously my team raised £1000 over two walks last year, so I’d like to at least double that.”

Sara Ling, NSPCC Scotland community fundraising manager said: “We’d love as many people as possible to join the NSPCC Scotland Kiltwalk team.”
