Airport named after local hero Ronaldo

The aiport in the Madeira Islands is to be renamed Cristiano Ronaldo Airport.

Ronaldo is expected to attend a ceremony at the airport outside his hometown of Funchal today.

The city already boasts a Ronaldo statue, a museum about him, and a hotel complex named after him.

Ronaldo grew up in Funchal before moving to the mainland to join the youth set-up at Sporting Lisbon.
