Duffy knows that defeat for Morton would give hosts one hand on the trophy

- By CRAIG STEWART

Morton head to Championship leaders Hibs tonight with the chance of going second in the table but manager Jim Duffy is not encouraging talk of a title challenge from his Greenock men.

The Cappielow club sit level on points with Falkirk with their clash at Easter Road using up one of their two games in hand over the Bairns. But, with Hibs having a ten-point advantage, Duffy is not looking to lay claim to his side being a threat to the hosts’ hopes of winning the title.

Duffy said: “It would be great for the club and for the fans to talk about being second or being involved in a title chase, however for me it is all about getting points on board. Getting something from Easter Road would do that as opposed to anything else.

“At the end of the season we can look to see where our points have taken us. Also if we were to lose this game then Hibs would pretty much have a stranglehold on the title.”

Duffy added: “They have great experience and talent in their squad and that showed at the weekend when they defeated Falkirk without a couple of big name players [John Mcginn and Ofir Marciano]. James Keatings is not a regular but he popped up with a wonder goal to win the game.”

Morton pulled off a stunning 3-0 midweek win over Hibs at Easter Road last season and Duffy was asked about the chances of lightning striking twice. “That game has no bearing on this one at all,” he said. “All it does is show that on any given day if one team plays to the top of their ability and their opponents are off it then a surprise score-line can happen.”

Lee Kilday joins Conor Pepper and Jai Quitongo in missing out after suffering an ankle injury in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Dunfermline.
