Rovers see off Fifers to boost play-off bid

-

Albion Rovers dented East Fife’s League 1 play-off hopes and boosted their own with a 1-0 success in Coatbridge.

The winner came ten minutes into the second half when Jason Kerr lost possession at the edge of the box and Ryan Wallace swept in a first-time effort.

A minute later, the home side almost gifted away a leveller when Alan Reid headed past Ross Stewart and the shot-stopper had to sprint back to his line and claw the ball clear.

Visiting substitute Jamie Insall had an equaliser chopped off on 78 minutes for offside, however he gave his side the chance of rescuing a last-gasp point when he was fouled by Mick Dunlop.

Scott Robinson stepped up to take the penalty but Stewart produced a fantastic save to ensure the points stayed with the hosts.
