A turkey vote?
If Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP’S dream comes true and Scotland becomes a separate country but part of the EU there are two problems which I have not seen or heard being discussed yet.
As the United Kingdom we paid £350,000,000 per week to the EU (yes, we got some of it back, but it was with instructions on how to spend what was actually our own money!)
As an “independent Scotland”wecouldhardlyexpectto join the EU for free – at a rough calculation, proportionally it would be £25,000,000 per week. Do we have that much available money in Scotland? All our laws, rules and regulations would come from the EU. Why would we still need a Scottish Parliament? It would be redundant and could be dissolved. Has Nicola and the SNP considered this? Or perhaps the money saved on the parliament wages could help towards the £25,000,000? (MRS) J THOMPSON Finnart Road, Greenock Greenland is so far the only country to have left the EU. When negotiations were successfully completed after the two-year period the EU insisted that the Greenland government put the deal to their people in a referendum. It is likely that they will require the same from the UK, and why not?
It is shameful that the UK Government has no plans for a final consultation. Since this referendum would likely be in early 2019, how would this affect the proposed indyref2?
