Man says wife’s death was accident

A former Conservative councillor has said that his wife’s death in the south of France was an accident.

David Turtle, 62, and his wife Stephanie, 50, from Bournemouth, moved to Prayssac, on the Lot river in south-west France, less than a year ago to run a B&B. Mrs Turtle died on Friday. Mr Turtle was arrested by police after her body was allegedly found under the wheels of a car. He said: “I have to stay here. I just don’t know what to do. It was an accident. That is what I’ve told the police.”
