Livingston just a point away from title

- By CRAIG P STEWART By CRAIG P STEWART

Livingston’s 2-0 win at Brechin City means that David Hopkin’s side only need to avoid defeat against Alloa next weekend to be crowned League 1 Champions. Lions striker Liam Buchanan opened the scoring on 11 minutes when he converted a Sean Crichton knock-down and the striker shot home on 59 minutes to take his tally for the season up to a club record of 25.

Manager Hopkin said: “The attitude of the players has given us a great chance next weekend.”

Alloa’s hopes of keeping pace with Livingston were undone when they were held at home 1–1 by Albion Rovers.

Jordan Kirkpatrick fired the Wasps in front from 25 yards before Paul Willis grabbed an equaliser right on the halftime whistle.

East Fife remain fourth after a goalless draw with a Queen’s Park side who could be involved in either the promotion or relegation play-off.

Peterhead and Airdrie drew 1-1 with the point not helping the Blue Toon move out of a play-off place and the Diamonds move into one. Rory Mcallister gave Peterhead the lead and Ian Russell missed a penalty for Airdrie before Sean Mcintosh levelled on 35 minutes.

It is beginning to look ominous for Stenhousemuir at the foot of the table after a 3-0 defeat at Stranraer left them five points adrift.

Scott Agnew opened the scoring in the first half with Ryan Thomson adding a second after the visiting Jamiemccormackhadbeen dismissed. Amadou Kassarate notched the third with a spectacular overhead kick. League leaders Forfar enjoyed their first win in two months as in-form Stirling Albion were blown away 3-0 at Forthbank.

The Loons led on 14 minutes through Jim Lister and Danny Denholm drilled in the second 13 minutes later. Denholm bundled in the third in the second half, with manager Gary Bollan saying: “To defeat a team that has won six times in a row is terrific.”
