Arsene Wenger would not be drawn on his future after Arsenal missed out on a Champions League place for the first time in 20 years.

Goals by Hector Bellerin, Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey gave the Gunners a 3-1 victory over Everton ,for whom Romelu Lukaku scored from a penalty, but it was not enough for the London club as Arsenal finished outside the top four by one point.

There could also be a price to pay for next weekend’s FA Cup final against Chelsea as Laurent Koscielny was sent off after 14 minutes and will be suspended, while Gabriel was carried off on a stretcher.

Wenger, who said the tension coming from fans who want him out was not helping the players, added: “Look, my personal situation tonight is not so important. I care about this club. Even if I leave one day I will love this club until the last day of my life, and I want this club to do well and that’s all I care about tonight. It’s not my personal situation, it’s just how well the club responds next season.”

Liverpool beat Middlesbrough 3-0 at Anfield to finish fourth and clinch their Champions League place. Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum put them ahead just before half-time, before a 25-yard free-kick by Philippe Coutinho and a third goal by Adam Lallana secured the win. 0 Arsene Wenger is frustrated as Arsenal finish fifth in the table.

Madrid also warmed up for that final in style, with goals by Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema steering them to their first La Liga title in five years as they cruised to a 2-0 win at Malaga last night.

Needing just a point to pip Barcelona and confirm the crown in Zinedine Zidane’s first full season in charge, Ronaldo fired home after just two minutes on the clock and Benzema’s second, ten minutes into the second half, sealed the title for Real. Barca beat Eibar 4-2 but the win was in vain.
