Student suffers serious head injuries after fall from balcony in Ibiza

● Police question male friend but say inquiries suggest a tragic accident

in Majorca yesterday by helicopter for an emergency operation because of the severity of her condition.

A source said: “The man she was with has said he went to the bathroom and saw her falling over the balcony as he came out, but didn’t have time to reach her.

“He will be formally questioned by police but there is nothing at this stage to indicate the victim was pushed and it appears to be an accident in which alcohol may have played a factor.”

The apartment Ms Rehman fell from is thought to be the rented home of the friend she was with, a young DJ who was working in Ibiza.

It is not yet clear whether the man with Ms Rehman was her boyfriend or a friend she knew from Scotland or someone she had met in Ibiza.

British revellers flocked to Ibiza this weekend to take advantage of the Bank Holiday and club launch parties.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard, which is investigating, said of yesterday’s incident: “A 21-year-old British woman has been taken to hospital after plunging from a second-floor balcony in San Antonio, Ibiza.

“We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.” ● Kirsty Maxwell, 27, from Livingston, West Lothian, died on 29 April after falling from a tenth-floor apartment in Benidorm.

A judge is still investigating her death and has placed Joseph Graham, 32, from Nottingham, under formal investigation.

Mr Graham, a logistics worker for Amazon, has denied any wrongdoing.

He has not yet been charged with any crime and was allowed to return to the UK after police questioning.

A lawyer acting for Ms Maxwell’s family has asked the investigating judge to place four other British men – who were in the apartment with her when she plunged to her death – under formal investigation.
