Crystal has a ball at Ayr

● Perratt’s mare goes for three in a row at Musselburgh

- By IAIN FERGUSON

Dark Crystal won for the second time in five days yesterday when she recorded her sixth course win at Ayr following on from last Wednesday’s Hamilton success.

The Linda Perratt-trained six-year-old mare travelled well throughout the sevenfurlong totepool Like Us On Facebook Handicap and, when jockey Lewis Edmunds asked her to quicken, she did so in style to win by a length and a quarter from Magistral.

Next stop for her is a likely trip to Musselburgh on Saturday where she will attempt to make it three wins in just nine days.

Perratt said: “She loves the track and soft going also suited her perfectly. The plan is Musselburgh on Saturday if she comes out of today alright.”

Another horse who loves Ayr is Royal Regent, who was recording his third course win in the @totepoolracing Win Racing Tickets On Twitter Handicap which he took by half a length from Gworn.

Trainer Michael Dods saddled a double on the day with Jackontherocks, ridden by Callum Rodriguez winning the opening novice stakes and My Name Is Rio, the mount of Connor Beasley landing the feature race, the Totepool Betting on All UK Racing Handicap.

Meanwhile, Joseph Tuite is a trainer among the winners at the moment and his Red Alert should go well in the Sharp’s Doom Bar Handicap at Salisbury today.

A winner at Chelmsford in February, he was given a break before running again at Salisbury in May in a race which has worked out well.

The winner, Andrew Balding’s Scorching Heat, ran off 76 but went close in a much tougher race at Newmarket on Saturday off 82.

Red Alert is entitled to strip a good deal fitter with that under his belt and with Tuite in red-hot form there are not many negatives.
