Callous May?

-

Theresa May simply does not come over as warm or sympathetic.

This daughter of the vicarage most likely feels as shattered and torn apart as any other in the aftermath of the inferno in London but is simply unable to express her grief publicly. This inability to comauthorities municate meaningfully was apparent also in the general election campaign, where she came over as cool and aloof and lacking any passion.

It is a pity, because there are plenty of palpably insincere politicians who make a living out of their ability to come over as sincere.

In this emotional vacuum, politically motivated movements, with easy and palpably insincere answers, thrive.

Had the appalling Grenfell Tower block fire occurred during the run-up to the general election, rather than afterwards, I doubt if Theresa May’s reluctance to meet with grieving relatives would have been any different.

She has a big problem with empathy – even when it could bring political advantage. Strength and stability are given priority on her list of useful human traits, especially when aiming for the top political prize.

Those traumatised people, many of whom still have no confirmation of the almost certain deaths of their missing relatives, deserved better – much better.
