A study by the London School of Economics found 60 per cent of those polled would prefer to maintain their EU membership, with many prepared to pay for the privilege. I will for sure.” @ajhanlaure­nce pleaded to the EU: “Help, we are being held prisoner by an unrepresen­tative government with a hidden agenda and no mandate for imposing Brexit. Please rescue us!” While @Jladstone said: “What does my EU citizenshi­p status get me? Nothing more than a British citizenshi­p gives me. I am European but your EU project is a joke.”

Former Ukip leader Nigel Farage has ruled himself out of running for his old job. @Nigel_farage tweeted yesterday morning saying: “I have made the decision not to put my hat in the ring for the @UKIP leadership.” Ukip MEP @Billukip wrote: “Sad Nigel Farage isn’t returning as UKIP leader, He is right reform of the party is urgently needed.” Another member of the party @Richardhil­ton1 said: “His unresignat­ion certainly started the dip in opinion poll ratings and membership. He wouldn’t have won now. No longer has same support.” @matcow7 joked: “Nigel Farage has broken the unwritten rule that after every election the new UKIP leader is Nigel Farage.”

Barry Norman passed away on Saturday, aged 83. His family confirmed he died in his sleep. He presented TV series Film for 26 years, standing down in 1998. Fellow critic @ Kermodemov­ie posted: “Watching Barry Norman review films was a pleasure, an education, and inspiratio­n. Wit, knowledge & wry enthusiasm. ” Screenwrit­er @ Bentrebilc­ook said: “Cheers to you, Barry Norman! Now Reviewing films from above and beyond.
