#BIGTAXCASE

HMRC won its battle with Rangers over more than £47 million paid to players, managers and directors in tax-free loans. @omaradona7 said: “They cheated and lied then died. Then denied. Now they must accept.” @theoffshoregame claimed: “Today’s #Bigtaxcase ruling has major implications not just for Scottish Football but many tax dodgers in the UK abusing trusts.” @Grahamspiers said: “The reputation of Rangers FC has been tarnished over several decades. It has now just been thoroughly trashed.” @Uk_tax_gone_mad asked: “Will #HMRC now declare how much the ‘Big Tax Case’ cost the taxpayer, having finally go the result they wanted?” @Etimsnet said: “HMRC Wins case. Rangers cheated the taxman and cheated Scottish football.”

#PMQS

It was a rowdy return to Prime Minister’s Questions as Theresa May was grilled over the public pay cap. @Peston reckoned: “@jeremycorbyn has been transformed by the election: he speaks with an authority few thought he would ever have at dispatch box.” @Daydreamdebbie asked: “How long is she going to keep banging on about the deficit under a Labour gov?” @darrenpjones said: “I know I’m a new MP, but sitting here at #PMQS and hearing the non-answers from the PM whilst Tory MPS jeer and shout and point is shameful.” @liamyoung asked: “How can May stand there and praise our emergency service staff after voting to cut their pay?” @jeremyforlab said: “Theresa May’s has done less for ordinary people in her career than nurses do in a shift.” @Jamesmelville wrote: “Theresa May at #PMQS – “It isn’t fair to load debts on our children.” She forgets that Tories doubled national debt to £1.9trn since 2010.

#JACOBREESMOGG

News that the Tory MP has named his sixth child Sixtus caused a few raised eyebrows. @Fitzganoan wrote: “#Jacobreesmogg MP for the 18th century & partner have named their child Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher... as one would, would not we all?” @Blackxlist asked: “#Jacobreesmogg lives on an estate, lives off the state, fires out multiple babies with wacky names, secret chav?” with the opinion that many had blindly accepted the relentless Unionist attacks on him in the media and the BBC, and had little knowledge of what independence could mean for Scotland.

It was sad that a decent and honourable politician, who had brought Scotland to within 5 per cent of independence, in a campaign which was totally peaceful, felt he had to resign at the end, and I look forward to him being back in some capacity.

The current leader of the Tory party, by comparison, could learn a few things from Alex Salmond. Not least, dignity in adversity. But resignation seems to be the last thing on Theresa May’s mind, despite having brought about the current destructive chaos of her minority government. Aberfeldy, immortalised by Rabbie Burns.
