No more seconds, thank you, Noche de Reyes

● Heskin feels win at Perth is within reach of top-weight

- By PETER ALLISON

Adrian Heskin is looking forward to his ride on Noche de Reyes in the feature race at Perth today.

The Tom George-trained top-weight faces five rivals in the £14,000 Heineken Handicap Chase over two miles.

Heskin said: “He’s been running consistently with those seconds in his last three races at Stratford, and Ludlow twice. I’d say he’s been unlucky not to get his head in front and hopefully he can go one better this time.”

Among the opposition to Noche de Reyes are Fergal O’brien’s course and distance winner Owen Na View and David Dennis-trained Deauville Dancer who has won his last two starts at Newton Abbot and Huntingdon.

Dual champion jockey Richard Johnson has rides in the first four races starting with A Touch Of Spark for Stuart Crawford in the opening Racing Welfare Racing Staff Week Maiden Hurdle.

Camilla’s Wish, trained by Richard Ford in Lancashire, is a mare on a real roll and she bids to make it five wins in a row in the Perth On-course Rails Bookmakers Novices’ Handicap Hurdle. She started with a hunter chase success before adding two wins over hurdles plus a recent handicap chase at Cartmel.

At Perth yesterday, George sent out a one-two in the main race as Kilbree Kid led home Always On The Run in the Lodge At Perth Racecourse Handicap Chase (for the Kilmany Cup). Davy Russell and Gordon Elliott teamed up for a short-priced double with Penny Jane and Fagan.

Meanwhile, time is running out for Musselburgh to stage its next scheduled meeting on 14 July.

The Musselburgh Joint Racing Committee, which runs the course, has until 5pm today to agree to a governance review by the British Horseracing Authority, but that seems unlikely as MJRC chairman Councillor Willie Innes has not called for a meeting until next Tuesday.

The BHA has reiterated its position remains the same but that it is still in ongoing talks with the MJRC in the hope of reaching a solution.

A statement from the BHA read: “The matter is entirely in the hands of the MJRC and we look forward to receiving such an undertaking from the MJRC by the end of Thursday, July 6 so that the planned fixture on July 14 can continue.

“The BHA is not in a position to confirm that fixture will go ahead without such a commitment.”

The MJRC consists of four members of East Lothian Council and three from the Lothian Racing Syndicate.

It emerged in April that clashes between the two parties had prompted the BHA to issue only a temporary licence to the end of June.
