Forty of the BBC’S most highprofil­e female presenters have co-signed an open letter to BBC director Tony Hall demanding equal pay. @Pipshow tweeted: “A group of superb journalist­s & presenters. We’re standing together to politely suggest they can do better.” @margot_ james_ mp said: “If you want to be valued by the BBC, be a man with a big ego... we must end the gender pay gap for next generation.” @Liannabrin­ded posted: “This pay row isn’t just about the BBC, it’s actually representa­tive of the pay and promotion discrimina­tion women face in general.”

Actor John Heard, known for his role as the father in Home Alone, has died aged 72. @scottewein­berg tweeted: “Most people will know John Heard as ‘Home Alone dad’, which is cool, but he was more versatile than that.
