Players lose day off after facing wrath of Mccann

- By EUAN MCARTHUR

If anyone had any lingering doubts about Neil Mccann’s commitment as Dundee manager, they should surely be extinguished by now.

Having watched his side struggle towards an uninspiring victory over Highland League champions Buckie Thistle to make it consecutive victories in Group C of the Betfred Cup, Mccann wasted no time in cancelling their day off and ordering them in for an extra session instead yesterday to iron out any earlyseason problems.

The Dark Blues spent yesterday sweating it out as opposed to having the luxury of putting their feet up after Mccann described as “not acceptable” their overall efforts in disposing of their part-time opponents on Tayside.

Mccann publicly savaged his new-look side, containing a host of summer signings, despite prevailing courtesy of goals in either half by Faissal El Bakhtaoui and recent arrival Sofien Moussa.

Former Sutton United attacker Roarie Deacon, for one, had no complaints about Mccann’s punishment and says it’s a sign that he only wants the best for the team.

“You don’t deserve rewards after a performance like that,” he said. “He wasn’t happy. All there was to be happy about was the win. He knows we can play better and so do we.”

Dundee travel to Cowdenbeath on Wednesday before hosting Dundee United at Dens on Sunday.
