Awoman has swum the equivalent of the English Channel in her local swimming pool to raise funds for charity.

Lynne Feeney planned her challenge for MS Society Scotland after seeing first-hand the support they give to people affected by the neurological condition.

The 56-year-old who works as a receptionist for the charity in Ratho Station, completed 1945 lengths which works out as the equivalent 35,000 metre stretch of the Channel.

And over a matter of months, plucky Lynne from Currie has been a familiar face at her local leisure centre, bagging dozens of lengths each day before heading to work.

Lynne who has so far raised over £500, said: “When I finished my last length I felt totally awesome – I wanted to shout out to the other people in the pool ‘I’ve just finished swimming the English Channel and I feel amazing’”.

“I wanted to raise some funds for MS Society Scotland because it is a very worthy charity and helps so many people living with MS. For me it was a double bonus, as I have also increased my fitness too.

“Through my job I meet people affected by MS and see donations coming in from people who are doing all sorts of things and raising huge amounts of money – I feel very humbled and inspired by them all.

“Although there was a few times where getting up and going to the pool was a challenge, I pushed myself and was motivated to do it because some people living with MS don’t have that option due to problems with mobility or fatigue. I am definitely thinking about another challenge – it is a good feeling to have raised money to help stop MS.”

Morna Simpkins, Director for MS Society Scotland said: “We are all very proud of the hard work and dedication Lynne has put into completing this momentous challenge to help support people living with MS. It is great to see our staff engaging in fundraising events – especially fun and unique challenges like Lynne’s which not only raise awareness but can help to fund services such as our free helpline and drive research for more and better treatments.

“On behalf of all of her friends and colleagues at MS Society Scotland, a huge well done to Lynne.”
