Peterhead striker Mcallister gives Hearts the finger

Striker Rory Mcallister celebrates his 89th-minute penalty winner as Peterhead stunned Hearts 2-1 in Betfred Cup Group B at Balmoor last night.

Hibs frontman Simon Murray was also celebratin­g – his first hat-trick for the Easter Road side as they cruised to a 6-1 home win over Arbroath in Group D.

In Group F, Premiershi­p Motherwell struggled against League Two Edinburgh City at Ainslie Park, coming from behind to prevail 2-1 thanks to a winner from Elliott Frear.

A thrilling Lanarkshir­e derby between Albion Rovers and Hamilton at Cliftonhil­l finished 4-4 but the home side grabbed a bonus point in Group G with a penalty shootout win.

Falkirk made sure they will top Group A by seeing off Forfar 4-0 at home.

Falkirk and Livingston both booked their place in Sunday’s draw for the last 16 of the Betfred Cup with the Bairns seeing off visitors Forfar 4-0 and the Lions winning 4-2 at Stranraer.

Myles Hippolyte helped himself to a hat-trick as Peter Houston’s side qualified with a game to spare with the striker drilling his side ahead from 20 yards.

Nathan Austin doubled their advantage before the halfhour mark when he nodded in and Hippolyte hit home another fine effort before the break.

Top spot in Group A was more than assured when Hippolyte fired in his third at the back post with the second half just five minutes old.

Livingston confirmed their place after going behind when Morgyn Neill headed in against his former club after five minutes.

Scott Robertson helped turn a Keaghan Jacobs free-kick into his own net to restore parity and the sides exchanged quick-fire goals again before the break with Dale Carrick heading the Lions in front only for Scott Agnew to make it 2-2 from the penalty spot within 90 seconds.

Nikolay Todorov shot Livi in front for a second time just after the hour mark and Scott Robinson sealed the win.

Ayr top Group E ahead of Premiershi­p neighbours Kilmarnock after overcoming an early scare to defeat visitors Clyde 5-1. David Goodwillie cracked the Bully Wee into the lead on 12 minutes but the Honest Men pulled level on 20 minutes when Robbie Crawford slotted home.

A long-distance effort from Craig Moore had the hosts ahead and Michael Moore added a third.

Moore slid in to grab his second of the night before Declan Mcdaid rounded things off.

The game between Dumbarton and Annan finished goalless and ten-a-side before Ryan Stevenson earned the Galabank visitors a 4-3 penalty shoot-out success.

Peter Macdonald’s penalty five minutes from the break and a last-gasp spot kick from Liam Caddis was enough for Stirling to defeat Brechin City 2-0 and move into second place in Group A behind Falkirk. In Group B East Fife defeated Elgin City 3-2 at Bayview in a game that came alive when Thomas Reilly’s free-kick was allowed to drift into the home side’s net. Chris Duggan quickly converted a knock-down to level and Mark Docherty’s penalty had the Fifers leading. However, Reilly levelled only for Paul Willis to tap in a rebound.

Raith Rovers enjoyed their first win in Group C with a 6-1 success at Buckie Thistle.

A Lewis Vaughan penalty in 14 minutes gave the Kirkcaldy men the lead before John Mcleodturn­edinasamur­quhart cross to equalise on 25 minutes.

Greig Spence restored Raith’s lead before Vaughan scored directly from a 25 yard free-kick to make it 3-1 at the break. Liam Buchanan added the fourth and fifth with Ross Matthews slamming home the final goal of the evening.

Montrose also broke their duck in Group D with a 2-1 home success over Alloa where Kerr Hay swept a cutback home to give the Gable Endies the lead midway through the first half.

Paul Watson added their second from close range on 53 minutes with Ian Flannigan scoring a late consolatio­n for the Wasps. Queen’s Park ended their Group F campaign with a 3-2 win at Berwick despite Greg Rutherford edging the Borderers in front after only 21 seconds.

The Spiders replied from Ross Millen’s penalty and they got their noses in front when Michael Bailey headed in.

David Galt hit home the third from the edge of the box with Steven Thomson pulling a goal back in the second half.

Lowland League Champions East Kilbride enjoyed a 2-1 win at Stenhousem­uir thanks to Sean Winter’s second-half double.

Winter’s header two minutes into the second half gave the K-park men the lead but Jamie Longworth found the net to equalise before Winter pounced for a second time.
