Naysmith delighted by additions

Queen of the South are in much better shape for their trip to face Dundee United than manager Gary Naysmith expected a week ago.

St Johnstone duo Jason Kerr and Chris Kane have joined on loan, with goalkeeper Alan Martin and Stephen Dobbie back after injury. A delighted Naysmith said: “United are title favourites and we wanted to be facing them with as strong a team as possible. Last Saturday it looked like we would be low on numbers. However, the loan deals have come off and two big players are now fit.”

United lost 2-1 to Dundee in the Betfred Cup on Wednesday, but manager Ray Mckinnon is not expecting a hangover. He said: “Despite losing, we played well and can look forward to this game.”

St Mirren will be asked to provide another high against neighbours Morton at Cappielow. Said assistant manager James Fowler: “In April we had a tremendous 4-1 win there which was a major factor in us staying up.”

Dumbarton manager Stephen Aitken expects a backlash from Falkirk, who have lost their last two games. He said: “Falkirk will be out to bounce back and will see facing a parttime club as a great opportunit­y to do that.”

Dunfermlin­e also aim to bounce back when they host Inverness after their 6-0 defeat by Rangers in midweek. Manager Allan Johnston said: “We never did the basics right and we cannot do that again as this will be a tough test.”
