Donald Trump tweeted dismay at the removal of Confederat­e statues, calling them ‘beautiful statues and monuments’ and said the history and culture of the US was being ripped apart. @Bill_shea19 tweeted: “I wonder how many descendant­s of slaves look on statues of Confederat­e generals and politician­s and see them beautiful?” @freeblackg­irl said: “If that’s the case, erect monuments for all leaders of slave rebellions. That’s history too.” @Laurie_garrett observed: “This Trump comment refers to statues of Robert E Lee Jefferson Davis, Johnny Reb & other Confederat­e icons. You know: defenders of SLAVERY.” @sharon_holbrook said: “Sad we still cannot remember that actually ‘our great country ripped apart’ by those who fought to OWN some of our beautiful fellow humans.”

Jim Moir’s appearance on Celebrity Masterchef left viewers bemused because he looked exactly liked Vic Reeves.
