Goals in store despite Saints bid to tighten up at the back

Championship leaders St Mirren head to secondplaced Dunfermline looking for the magic formula that will allow them to be tighter at the back without dampening their potency as an attacking force

The Saints defeated Inverness Caledonian Thistle 4-2 last weekend in a game that highlighted their goal-grabbing abilities but also showed defensive frailties.

Assistant manager James Fowler said: “It is a fine balance as you do not want to improve in one area at the expense of the other.

“Dunfermline will be saying much the same after losing at Morton.

“The two teams will look to tighten up but I cannot see a goalless draw happening.”

Queen of the South manager Gary Naysmith reckons his team are better equipped than ever to face Morton.

He said: “They will quite rightly be boisterous after beating Dunfermline 3-2 last weekend. However, I would say that we now have a strength in depth to give me options to get the better of them.

“I wanted opposing teams to look at our bench and be impressed. We are there now.”

Falkirk host Dundee United with both sides looking for a win to end mounting criticism.

Said Tannadice manager Ray Mckinnon: “We shot ourselves in the foot early on against Dumbarton last Saturday, but we stuck at things to get a point. We have to impose ourselves early at Falkirk as opposed to chasing things.”

Inverness Caledonian Thistle look for their first home win when Livingston visit.

Caley manager John Robertson said: “We scored twice at the home of the leaders but never got any points. That highlights where our problems are.” Dumbarton take on Brechin City in a battle between the two parttime teams in the Championship. Sons manager Stephen Aitken said: “Brechin’s draw with Falkirk last weekend sent out the message that they are a decent outfit.”
