Sonic chandeliers along with wall tiles inspired by aerospace engineering will be among Scottish creations being exhibited at the London Design Fair from tomorrow.

The showcase will feature 17 designers based north of the Border in a four-day event expected to attract 27,000 people including retail buyers.

Their creations will be displayed in the Scotland: Craft & Design Pavilion, designed by Edinburgh-based GRAS, among 500 exhibitors from 28 countries.

Craft Scotland will present the works with Invernessbased creative developers Emergents, which will also include ceramics, glass and furniture.

Designers taking part have worked with clients such as the V&A, Selfridges and Deutsche Bank.

The chandeliers, which

0 Scottish designers will show work including wooden lighting, a sonic chandelier and a boat organisers said “make a beautiful sound”, have been made by glass designer Carrie Fertig, on the theme of icicles.

Lynne Maclachlan has used her aerospace engineering expertise to create a collection of 3D-printed nylon wall tiles, which have been hand dyed.

Craft Scotland said: “These multi-part tiles cleverly slot together to form intriguing wall-mounted displays, bring a sense of dynamism to a space and visual delight.” Also on show will be “inventive and unorthodox” glass sculptures by Shaun Fraser, Juli Bolaños-durman and Harry Morgan, and ceramics by Fiona Byrnesutton and Patricia Shone. Furniture makers exhibiting include Jonathan Pang and Namon Gaston, and Hynd and Halliday.

Craft Scotland director Fiona Logue said: “Due to the overwhelming demand for Scottish design-led craft, we are delighted to be able to showcase a new Scotland: Craft & Design pavilion for 2017.

“Working in partnership with Emergents, Scotlandbased makers have rightly made a huge impression on the London and international design markets.

“We’re look forward to building on that reputation this year and I’m personally very excited to see the reaction to the work of these incredibly talented makers.”

The fair runs until Sunday at the Old Truman Brewery in Spitalfields in east London.

Pamela Conacher, director of craft, fashion and textiles at Emergents, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Craft Scotland for a second year to deliver this exciting showcase at London Design Fair.

“Through their involvement in the Scottish Pavilion in 2016, our participants have reported new sales, commissions and increased publicity.

“I am sure similar successes will be repeated in 2017.”
