- By MARTIN FLANAGAN

Manchester United FC has reported record revenues of £581 million in its latest financial year, the second successive year the club has passed the half billion pound milestone.

In the previous 12 months the club made £515.3m, and the boost in the year to end-june 2017 was mainly driven by a 38 per cent jump in television broadcast income to £194m from £140.4m 12 months before.

In a period when Manchester United won the Europa League and the English Football League Cup (now called the Carabao Cup), the club said it also signed 12 sponsorship deals.

The club is second in the English Premier League under manager Jose Mourinho, and is back in the European Champions League thanks to its Europa League final victory over Ajax in May.

Commercial revenue rose 2.7 per cent to £275.5m, with money from sponsorship, retail and licensing all up, but revenues down 15 per cent on its digital output.

Match-dayrevenuesclimbed 4.7 per cent to £111.6m, but Manchester United said this was mainly due to playing two more home games at Old Trafford during the year.

It led the club to post record operating profits of £80.8m, up from £68.9m last time.

Controlled by the American Glazer family, United forecast revenue of between £575m and £585m in the current financial year.
