Dog owners ‘failing to pick up’

- By SARAH LUMLEY

A quarter of Britain’s dog owners confess they do not pick up their pet’s mess, new research has revealed.

Thenation’sworstoffenders are from Gloucester where almost half of the city’s dog owners admit that they regularly fail to clear up their dog’s waste.

And Wrexham has been named the dog poo capital of the UK as residents estimate they see an average of six different piles of animal waste each day while out and about.

The new data follows research by leading pet insurer www.animalfriends.co.uk.

A poll of 2,000 dog owners found that those living in Leeds are picking up the most fines for allowing their dog to foul. Around 25 per cent of dog walkers from the city said they had been fined. Leeds was followed by Coventry and Wrexham.

The average fine for dog fouling is £262.
