Land of confusion

-

The recent comments by Alex Bell, former SNP adviser and brains behind the 2014 economic white paper, aka fairy story, are the most revealing yet about SNP intentions. He claims that their current strategy is to cling to power and hope Brexit wreaks economic havoc on the UK. Presumably they figure that Scotland will then decide to leap out of the frying pan of post-brexit UK into the fire of independence. It might be difficult to convince us that an independent Scotland, outside both the EU and the UK, will be in a better economic position. It beggars belief that economic hardship across Scotland and the rest of the UK is considered to be a price worth paying in pursuit of independence.

In this context, Jim Sillars’ criticisms of Nicola Sturgeon are on solid ground. The SNP’S kneejerk support of the Catalonian independence movement has killed at birth any chance of Spain allowing an independent Scotland to join the EU. As an example of longterm, considered thinking, this support has been a complete disaster.

The best we can say for the current SNP strategy is that it is in line with their constitution. Their number one aim is to achieve independence. A secondary aim is to act in the best interests of Scotland. This probably accounts for their ability to ignore economic facts and the democratic will of the people as expressed in 2014.Nicolasturgeon’s dream is much more important than Scotland’s well being.
