Munro expecting big things from Scotland’s pro quartet in Spain
Scotland Women’s head coach Shade Munro expects his four professional players to lead from the front when they take on Spain in Majadahonda, Madrid tomorrow,
Although it is an uncapped international, it is a very important match because it marks the start of Scotland’s 2017/18 campaign and the build up to the Six Nations.
In recent months No 8 Jade Konkel, centre Lisa Thomson and full-back Chloe Rollie have been playing full-time in the French top flight with LMRCV.
Scrum-half Sarah Law has remained at home but is also a professional athlete – and Munro wants their recent experiences to show in this match. He said: “It will also be the first outing of the season for Jade, Chloe and Lisa in Scotland colours and the trio have all been performing extremely well for Lille in the French Top 8.
“The experience and knowledge they have gained, along with Sarah, will be a very welcome addition to an improving Scotland squad.
“We’re really looking forward to our first friendly international of the season.”
This time last year Scotland lost a two-legged World Cup qualifier to Spain, so they will be out for revenge in this one.
New names in the extended squad making the trip and aiming to make an impression include Stirling County forwards Siobhan Cattigan and Megan Kennedy and fellow forward Mags Lowish of Loughbourgh Lightning.
Liz Musgrove is an addition in the backs, the Edinburgh University student having impressed in the national sevens team over the summer.
