I want to be here and play here vows Wilson after Ibrox recall

-

Danny Wilson believes he still has a considerable role to play at Rangers and never thought about a change of scenery after being given a new lease of life by interim manager Graeme Murty.

Wilson was not so much peripheral as forgotten under Pedro Caixinha, making just three substitute appearances in the early part of the campaign and then omitted completely from the squad.

However, with Caixinha gone, he was recalled by Murty for the win over Hearts at Tynecastle – and kept his place for last week’s victory against Partick Thistle, even though Bruno Alves was available again.

Now the 25-year-old hopes he can make a major contribution to the team as the Rangers players wait to see who willbeappointedascaixinha’s replacement.

Wilson said: “I never really thought about going on loan because look how quickly things can change. A change of management and I am back in.

“There could have been injuries, suspensions, loss of form to the players that were playing and I could have been back

“I want to be here and play here and I want to stay focused on that. Now that I have played a couple of games, hopefully I am in a better place. It is frustrating when you’re not involved, but you just need to try and get on as best you can and work hard in the training ground.

“When I spoke to Pedro Caixinha at the start of the season, he said I was still an important player, but managers can tell you that and go a different way.

“As it was, he went with the pairing that started the season. In the last few weeks there have been injuries and suspensions, but other players were used.

“I wasn’t even stripped for games and now I’m playing. I’ve always believed I can do it and going forward I want to play a lot more for this club. I’m only 25 and, for centrehalves, that’s still young.”

Wilson is also delighted to play his part in the development of Ross Mccrorie, who is showing all of the potential that Wilson displayed as a teenager.

“Every young player needs time and will have good days and bad days,” said Wilson.

“It’s the same with Ross. He’s a good young player and it’s nice to play alongside him, helping him as much as he’s helped me.”

“The important thing with Ross is that he’s done well. He’s level-headed and whatever gets thrown at him he’ll react well.

“As players around him, we have to make sure we’re doing what we can to help him along.”
