Pensioner found dead after scooter topples

A pensioner was found dead in the road after his mobility scooter toppled over in the Borders.

The 77-year-old was discovered by a member of the public in Hawick yesterday morning.

He had been travelling on the road to Hathendean, near Knowetownhead Townhouse, when the vehicle he was driving overturned.

An ambulance was called but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
