He’s the father of the foreign secretary... get him out of here

- By JANE BRADLEY

He is the father of a senior member of government and has backed Brexit – despite being one of Britain’s first MEPS.

Now Boris Johnson’s father Stanley has landed in Australia to take part in reality TV show I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here!

The former Conservative MEP and father of the Foreign Secretary said that he was “excited” to be joining the ITV show.

Following his arrival, the 77-year-old, who last month expressed his support for Brexit despite having been one of the first British MEPS to sit in Brussels from 1979, became joint favourite with Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas to be crowned King of the Jungle.

Others taking part in this year’s show, once again fronted by Ant and Dec, include Coronation Street actress Jennie Mcalpine and boxer Amir Khan.

The Saturdays singer Vanessa White, Made In Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo, former footballer Dennis Wise and Youtube vlogger Jack Maynard have also landed in Australia.

It is believed that ITV bosses have recruited Mr Johnson in a bid to make the entertainment show more political, having reportedly offered Nigel Farage a £750k sum to take part last year.

He last month came out in support of Britain leaving the European Union, saying “the time has come to bale out.”

Last year’s series was won by Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt, who is to host the ITV 2 spin-off show, Extra Camp – alongside her 2016 runnerup Joel Dommett and 2008 series winner Joe Swash – following her roles on Celebrity Juice and the return of Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway over the last 12 months. She said: “It’s gone from me watching it since I was 11 with my mum and dad, to then people watching me and my mum and dad watching it [on Channel 4’s Gogglebox], to then going in it, to now doing the spin-off show...i’ll be behind the camera next, doing the lights.”

Aerial photographs of the jungle set used for the show have revealed a large structure which resembles the White House and as well as the famous rickety bridge and lengthy zip lines.

The show returns on Sunday, with co-host Ant saying that he is “feeling great” after a stint in rehab.

On arrival at Brisbane Airport, Ant Mcpartlinsaid: “I’m excited to be back, I can’t wait. It’s going to be a good show.”
