The Ivy in full bloom north of the Border with new restaurant open in spring

Eatery group takes over prime spot in Glasgow city centre’s Buchanan Street after Capital venture

-

In August this year it was revealed that the Ivy Collection had its sights set on Glasgow for its second Scottish restaurant – and it should now be open by the spring .

Located in the city centre in the former Nationwide building at 106 Buchanan Street, the group is hoping to obtain a first floor and basement, making the space ideal for a large outlet and akin to what is available in Edinburgh’s The Ivy on the Square, which opened in September.

As with the Capital, we can expect the interiors to include artwork from Adam Ellis, a vast cocktail menu, dishes inspired by Scottish produce and an accessible, fun vibe, with tables available on a walk-in basis.

Eric Garnier, general manager of The Ivy on the Square said: “The Glasgow restaurant is going to be different but I think it’ll work. We will do something for the city that people will enjoy and we want to provide something that they want.

“There are some very good restaurants in the city, and there’s a lot of people who know what they are doing – they understand the Glasgow market, which has changed a lot recently – but we plan to add to the dining scene.

“I am excited to open in Edinburgh as it will be a big lesson for us before we move on to Glasgow.

“Knowing that, Edinburgh and Glasgow are very different, but there’s still a Scottish culture (in each) at the end of the day.”

It is thought that the group will invest around £2 million to transform the site into a ground floor bar and first floor brasserie style restaurant – with a total of 180 covers inside and a further 24 covers outdoors on Royal Bank Place. It is thought that the brasserie will be called The Ivy, House 106.

A spokesman for the Ivy Collection said: “As of November 2017, The Ivy Collection has entered the planning process for a space on 106 Buchanan St. The restaurant will feature an allday dining menu and will be open seven days a week.

“The Ivy Collection is a group of restaurants, brasseries and cafés, established in London and now growing regionally across the UK, offering accessible, all-day dining for locals and visitors alike.

“Each location is carefully handpicked to value, reflect and add to the local area.”
