£ 2m of funds for satellite outfit
A satellite imaging and business intelligence start-up has closed a $2.6 million (£ 2m) funding round, including money from the Scottish Investment Bank.
Bird. i, which collates and disseminates satellite, airborne and dr one imagery in realtime to provide insights and data to global businesses, said the funding had been led by Accelerated Digital Ventures ( ADV).
The cash injection also comes from new investor, Concrete VC, as well as pre - vious backers Frontline Ven- tu r es, Satellite Application Catapult Services and the Scottish Investment Bank– the investment arm of Scottish Enterprise.
Bird. i has a team of 12 people across its offices in Glasgow and London.
This latest round brings the start-up’ stotal funding to $ 3.3m and will enable it to scale up its product portfolio and continue to expand glo - bally.
Founder Corentin Guillo, a French entrepreneur with a background in Earth observation, satellite development and innovation, said: “Bird. i’s ethos is that the important information found in images taken from space and our skies should be made more accessible, affordable and useable for all, to help businesses and individuals see a more accurate picture of our ever- changing world.
“This additional investmen twill enable us to continue developing our technology, grow the company and expand our pro duct p or tfo - lio.”
Michael Dimelow, head of investment at ADV, added: “Companies can now make real-time decisions about the progress of major construction and infrastructure projects, or the whereabouts of globally distributed assets.”
