#RUTHDAVIDSON Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson was crowned Scottish Politician of the Year at an awards ceremony. Other winners included Labour’s Monica Lennon.

@Daftboutanimals wrote: “Shouldn’t a politician win an award for helping the people and not just their own party?!!”

@Gaelic67 added: “So Ruth Davidson is Politician of the Year? Gonna put a tenner on Motherwell to win the league next season.”

@Roystevenson48

commented: “Well done to Ruth and her team, the tide is clearly turning so keep up the good work.”

@gwpurnell joked: “The best bit about Ruth Davidson winning the Scottish Politician of the Year award is the muckle big saltire on it. She’ll be busy this weekend with the Humbrol, making some red and white modifications.”

#TAXREFORM

Donald Trump could be heading for his first, and to date only, major legislative achievement in office after the House of Representatives passed a tax reform bill. The controversial legislation promises a tax cut for middle income earners, but has been accused of disproportionally benefiting the richest.

@kylegriffin1 wrote: “Trump and his family could save up to $1,000,000,000 overall under the GOP tax plan passed by the House, according to an analysis for NBC News.”

@Adamschiffca posted: “Today, I voted ‘no’ on the GOP tax bill. If you have a house, student loans, high medical bills or are a teacher, chances are that you are one of 36 million who will get a tax increase so that the wealthiest Americans and corporations get a tax cut. Count me out.”

@mattmfm claimed: “Under the GOP tax plan, teachers can’t write off their school supplies but billionaires can write off their private jets.”

#ALEXSALMONDSHOW

Alex Salmond made his debut on Russia Today with his political talk show, as controversy still raged over his role with the state broadcaster. Ousted Catalan leader Carlos Puigdemont was the first guest.

@dtaylor5633 wrote: “What an awesome line-up for the Alex Salmond show tonight The first in giving the Catalonian President airtime to present his case in the UK.”

@Gdonald added: “@ Alexsalmond you stated on your show that you have never argued for Catalan Independence, why is it then that you were waving a Catalan flag on the front page of the National?”
