#BREXIT

The Bank of England’s stress tests have found that banks in the UK would still be able to lend to customers even after a hard Brexit. The tests modelled an economy with dramatic rises in interest rates and unemployment, paired with a massive fall in house prices. @Johnymeldrum said: “Crash out or just leave without a trade deal? Stop dressing it up like it’s going to be armageddon.” @Frances_ coppola added: “Summary: no disasters. RBS and Barclays marginally failed systemic hurdles, but Barclays has raised capital since the stress tests were done and RBS already has a capital raising plan, so no further action needed.” @Jelly wobblebott said: “UK banks could handle ‘disorderly Brexit’, but you’d be better off moving your banking to an EU country.”

#POPE

Pope Francis failed to directly refer to Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslim minority during his speech in the country’s capital. He has previously denounced their treatment as religious persecution. @Markfarmaner said: “If the Pope doesn’t use the word Rohingya, racist nationalists will see it as a victory, if he does, they will be upset and may protest. Which is better?” @Sara_aboubakr5 added: “Hopefully you’ll tackle the consistent ethnic cleansing going on there? People are dying, forced to flee their homes and raped, according to several Human Rights organisations.” @alexandrap ercz1 said: “He didn’t need to mention it directly. It was written all over the speech, between the lines.”

#GRAMMYS

The Grammy awards are returning to New York for the first time in 15 years in January. The nominees for each category have been released including Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino and Lorde. @thegreatkhalid said: “Woke up to find out that I’m nominated for five Grammys. I’m in shock. I’m so thankful man, this is unbelievable.” @Mrfilmkritik jokingly added: “I would like to personally thank The Recording Academy for not nominating Ed Sheeran for album, record or song of the year. Thank You.” @signofthetimes said: “Not to sound like a typical Brit but the Grammys snub British artist anyway if your name isn’t Sam, Adele or Ed.”
