Pardew takes over after Albion lose a two-goal lead

West Brom last night confirmed the appointmen­t of Alan Pardew as their new manager, following last week’s sacking of Tony Pulis.

The former West Ham, Southampto­n, Newcastle and Crystal Palace boss picks up there ins after the baggies were held to a 2-2 home draw with Newcastle.

Jonny Evans’ late own goal earned the visitors a 2-2 draw after Ciaran Clark had begun a second-half revival by crashing in a far-post header from Matt Ritchie’s corner.

Hal Robson-kanu and Sam Field had put Albion in command but their winless run now stretches to 13 games in all competitio­ns.

Newcastle’s comeback, which ended a run of four successive defeats, moved them up to 12th and five points clear of the bottom three ahead of a weekend trip to Chelsea.

Jamie Vardy scored his 100th league goal for Leicester City in their 2-1 victory over Tottenham at the King Power Stadium.

The striker gave his side an early lead which Riyad Mahrez extended just before halftime. Harry Kane pulled a goal back late on – his 11th in his last ten matches.

Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace picked up their first away point of the season with a goalless draw at bitter rivals Brighton.

Roy Hodgson’s bottom-ofthe-table Eagles edged a tight contest at a sold-out Amex Stadium but they were unable to make a breakthrou­gh as their search for a first league goal on the road since April continues.

Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha went closest for Palace when they were thwarted in quick succession by a superb double save by Albion goalkeeper Mat Ryan, while Brighton striker Glenn Murray had a late header blocked on the line by Andros Townsend.
