Glasgow engineer takes to road
Glasgow-based WGM Engineering has set out plans for cross-border expansion, using a new seven-figure vehicle leasing deal as a springboard for growth.
The firm, which also operates out of Livingston, provides electrical, mechanical and civil engineering services across the utilities and industrial markets, with projects in both the public and private sectors.
It aims to capitalise on a projected 30 per cent increase in revenue growth this financial year and expand its predominantly Scottish-focused operations to the rest of the UK. The number of employees has risen from 150 in 2015 to about 290 currently.
To help provide support for the additional engineers it has taken on, WGM has struck a four-year deal for 83 new vans alongside the sale and leaseback of its existing 60-strong fleet with Lex Autolease. It more than doubles the size of its light commercial vehicle fleet.
Gordon Mcrae, transport manager at WGM Engineering, said: “Our business is on an upward curve and we’re constantly looking for ways to capitalise on our current success. As we grow, purchasing and maintaining a fleet ourselves just isn’t a practical option.
“Leasing offers us the scalability that we need. These savings are already being reinvested back in to the business to enable plans for growth.”
Allison Hay, corporate development manager at Lex Autolease, added: “When we looked at how WGM operates, it was clear that keeping fitfor-purpose vans on the road was a key focus. We wanted to help the business to realise its growth ambitions while maintaining the high service levels that its existing customers value so greatly.”
