Charity pulls support for ‘exploitati­ve’ Hogmanay volunteer programme

Yet again we see the unions interferin­g in ordinary sensible volunteer programmes like this. There is a role for volunteers in many walks of life and those genuine cases of volunteer opportunit­ies where much of the whole nation benefits should always be allowed to proceed. – Corrigenda 2 I agree with some that these positions should really be wage paying, and the organisers are “exploiting” people’s goodwill. But, at the end of the day, they are volunteers. They are not being hauled off the streets to participat­e. These positions would not be filled if people thought they were being “exploited”. – Pete’s Dragon If anyone wants to work their socks off for no wages, then it’s their choice. Possibly they would be wiser to put their efforts into work that does return a wage even if only a modest one.
