MSPS probe fears over powers in Planning Bill
MSPS are to probe changes to Scotland’s plannning laws amid concerns they could hand ministers sweeping new powers to override community concerns about developments.
Holyrood’s local government and communities committee is calling for evidence on the new Planning Bill. It follows claims from environmental groups, including the John Muir Trust, that ministers would have “carte blanche” to approve industrial scale developments.
Committee convener Bob Doris said: “The entire purpose of these proposed changes is to strengthen the planning system and boost its contribution to inclusive growth, housing and infrastructure in Scotland. Our committee now wants to find out whether the bill will deliver an improved planning system.”
