Greek tragedy: Artwork uses scrolling LED ticker tape to tap into financial crisis in Athens
Visitors received a sensory overload at The Way Earthly Things Are Going (2017) – the new exhibit by Nigerian artist Emeka Ogboh unveiled at the Tate Modern in central London. The installation uses lights and sound to illustrate the connection between financial markets and people. It features live-streamed stock exchange data slowly scrolling around 25m of the space like a giant LED ticker tape. At the same time, visitors hear a haunting ancient Greek lament recorded specifically for the piece. Mr Ogboh said the biggest problem in Greece was the financial crisis. The display opened yesterday.
