Picture perfect: Sunrise over Linlithgow Palace ushers in a chilly Scottish winter’s day

ARBROATH

A colourful winter sunrise over Linlithgow Palace on the banks of Linlithgow Loch yesterday. The palace was a favoured residence of the Stewart kings and queens from James I onwards and was the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. The majestic ruins have featured in Scottish drama Outlander, standing in for the prison entrance and corridors in the scene where Jamie Fraser is imprisoned.
