British actors secure majority of nominations for Rising Star award

28-year-old London-born star will soon be seen in Marvel film Black Panther.

O’connor, 27, has been lauded for his role in 2017 film God’s Own Country and has also appeared in TV shows including Peaky Blinders, Ripper Street and The Durrells.

The EE Rising Star Award nominees are selected by a jury which this year includes actress Georgina Campbell and DJ Edith Bowman, as well as other film and industry experts. and is voted for by the British public. The winner will be announced at the Baftas on Sunday 18 February.

Previous Rising Star Award recipients include James Mcavoy, Kristen Stewart, Tom Hardy and John Boyega.
