Driver killed as car hits tree on country road

A driver has died in a crash with a tree on a country road.

The 39-year-old woman was driving a Ford Fiesta on the A759 between Troon and Dundonald in South Ayrshire when the vehicle lost control and struck a tree at about 5:20am yesterday.

Emergency services attended but the woman died at the scene, police said. She was the only person travelling in the car at the time.

Sergeant Kevin Blackley said inquiries are continuing and urged anyone who witnessed the crash to contact police.
