Death of man in house fire ‘not suspicious’

The death of a man in a house fire in the Borders is not being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to Mill Path, Hawick at about 10am on Thursday.

Three fire crews tackled the blaze and the body of a 68-year-old man was discovered inside the property.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “A joint investigation is currently ongoing with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the death is not believed to be suspicious.

“A report will be sent to the procurator-fiscal.”
