#LATTELEVY
Westminster politicians are pushing ahead with plans to put a 25p tax on every disposable coffee cup in the UK. The vast majority of the paper cups cannot be recycled as they have a plastic coating.
@rogerst77 said: “The latte levy has the right motive but why charge us extra? Make the companies who make the cups change! It’s fairer and will make a bigger change.”
@si-francis added: “Problem with Latte Levy is that cost of cups is in price already. Better to encourage positive behaviour change by giving 25p off for bringing reusable cup, which some cafes already do.”
@mattchinchilla said: “Shouldn’t this also apply to cold fountain drink cups from fast food places? Surely the market for that is larger than coffee drinkers?”
#FIREANDFURY
People queued from midnight to get their hands on a copy of Michael Wolff ’s controversial new book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, which is highly critical of the president.
@jdawsey1 said: “Clerk at Kramer Books says they have sold out of the Fire and Fury copies as of 12.15. They had 74 copies and started selling at midnight.”
@Mjgreen0101 added: “Midnight release of Fire and Fury draws dozens to Harry Potter-like queues.”
@Lokiloptr said: “Although I admit I will be reading the salacious pages of the book, the real story of #Fireandfury is not within its pages. It’s the administration’s reaction to it. And my oh my, the reaction deserves some thorough unpacking.”
#CHRISTMASTREES
One minute Christmas trees are the focus of festive celebrations, the next, they are lining the streets. People have been posting photographs of sad and lonely Christmas trees waiting to be collected.
@dreamchaserctk said: “Someone’s Christmas tree blew down my street earlier and now is in my neighbour’s driveway. The desert tumbleweed’s got nothing on this winter tumbleweed.”
@Muchbeast added: “Sad abandoned Christmas tree... just a few short days ago providing and spreading love and joy... now unceremoniously and literally kicked to the curb, left to slowly die of thirst and exposure to the bitter cold.”
