Montrose boss wants to get back on track

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Montrose manager Stewart Petrie has asked the table-topping Links Park players to put a disappointing week behind them and be ready to go again at Annan Athletic today.

The Gable Endies’ tengame unbeaten run ended when Peterhead blew them away 6-2 on their own turf last weekend and in midweek their lead over the Blue Toon was reduced to just one point when bottom side Cowdenbeath hit back to earn a 1-1 draw.

Petrie said: “One point from two home games was a disappointing return. However, we cannot lose sight of how well the players have done so far.

“We will pick ourselves up and be ready to go against an Annan side who will be involved in the promotion push.”

Annan are on an unbeaten run of their own, and manager Peter Murphy said: “I have been told that nine games unbeaten is a club record and hopefully we can take it to ten against Montrose.”

In-form Peterhead face their bogey side when they go to Stenhousemuir. Said manager Jim Mcinally: “We scored six against Montrose and then seven against Elgin, but that will count for nothing against Stenhousemuir.

“They have a very experienced squad and have won the last five games between the clubs so we need to find a way to ensure that does not become six.”

Warriors boss Brown Ferguson said: “Peterhead are rightly favourites for the league but I am happy with where we are ahead.”

Stirling Albion play Berwick Rangers at Forthbank and Elgin City host Clyde, with the prize of moving off the foot of the table available to Cowdenbeath when they entertain Edinburgh City.
