Culloden revisited

-

The Scotsman had an interesting excerpt from Struan Stevenson’s latest book (‘While Jacobite officers feasted, their men starved’, Scotsman 10 January).

This contrasts the excesses enjoyed by the Prince and the clan chiefs at Culloden House just before the Battle at Culloden in April 1746, while the front line troops were left exhausted and starving following the long retreat from Derby. Their physical condition had a bearing on the outcome of the battle.

The victorious Duke

of the private sector, zero hours contracts, no pension prospects and food banks.

There is as much of a disconnect between the elite and the working man now as there was in 1746. Culloden was the pending disaster in 1746. What awaits in 2018?

Think on’t.
