#BLUEMONDAY

Many years ago, a marketing firm decided that the third Monday of January was the most depressing day of the year. There’s no evidence to back that up, but that doesn’t mean millions of people aren’t struggling with mental health issues. @Imsophiedavies tweeted: “Blue Monday was made up by Sky Travel as part of a 2005 press release. It’s used to sell you stuff. It’s pseudoscience. Today is just another Monday.” @sjanemurf said: “It’s usually not obvious days that can feel unbearable when you’re depressed. It may be a sunny Friday in July - everyone else seems joyful, but you feel like you’ve been smacked in the face. So, be kind to others, not just on ‘Blue Monday’, but every day.” @Susannahtaylorx noted: “Blue Monday is not a function of how people feel but rather that the solicitors don’t work Sunday. This is the day when more divorces commence, people receive hefty credit card bills and is quite far from next pay day. Draw all these lines and they intersect on a Monday.” #CARILLION The construction firm holds hundreds of government contracts including hospitals, schools and the HS2 train line. It announced liquidation yesterday, with thousands of jobs potentially at risk. Many people are angry that the government gave so many vital jobs to a business in difficulty. @skipperbitty65 said: “While these lenders have been getting their billions of bonuses in the past few years. Disgusting.” @uk_citizen tweeted: “Disgusted Government allowed Carillion to go into receivership and see hundreds of sub-contractors go bust. If it was in finance, the Government would have thrown everything at it.”

#RIPCYRILLE The pioneering footballer Cyrille Regis, a former West Brom and England forward, has died aged 59. @Garylineker paid tribute, tweeting: “Saddened to hear that Cyrille Regis has passed away. A tremendous striker and fine man whose legacy goes beyond the game, helping to pave a way for black footballers in this country.”
