Kerr to join Miller and Craigen in leaving Falkirk as Hartley clears out

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Falkirk could part company with a third experienced player this week with Bairns boss Paul Hartley keen to offload midfielder Mark Kerr.

Striker Lee Miller had his contract cancelled by mutual consent on Tuesday and former Partick Thistle and Raith Rovers midfielder James Craigen left yesterday.

Talks with Kerr, who last played in a 0-0 draw at Dumbarton on 23 December, have been ongoing in recent days.

Like Miller, 35-year-old Kerr started his career at the Bairns and he made over 100 appearances before moving on to Dundee United, Aberdeen, Greek side Asteras Tripolis, Dunfermline, Dundee and Queen of the South before returning to the Falkirk Stadium along with Miller in 2015.

Kerr helped Alex Smith in a coaching capacity after the Bairns split with Peter Houston in September before Hartley was appointed and had played in 22 games this season. However, he has not been picked since the Dumbarton game and is viewed as surplus to requirements.

A number of clubs are monitoring the situation, including Airdrie who are keen to bring Kerr on board in their new part-time structure.

Craigen, who joined Falkirk in July 2016 and has played in over 50 games scoring six goals, has not featured since the goalless draw with Livingston on 19 December.

A club statement read: “All at Falkirk wish James the very best for the future and thank him for his contribution to the club.”
