Alex Cole-hamilton, Lib Dem MSP for Edinburgh Western, has written to Ofcom to complain about a party political broadcast unveiled by the SNP on Thursday.

@agcolehamilton said: “I’ve laid a motion before Parliament today, criticising @thesnp for their recent broadcast appearing to lampoon @davidtorrance in a worrying, Trumpian challenge to press freedom & for falsely claiming credit for free personal care. I’ve also raised a formal complaint with @Ofcom.”

@holyroodmandy tweeted:

“People thought @davidtorrance was the guy in the Tesco advert! This is absolute nonsense and not worthy of parliamentary time.”

@Mhairihunter added: “Have to say I think the perceived resemblance between Davy & David Torrance is entirely coincidental. Nonetheless it is hilarious. Could I suggest Alan Cochrane for next time?”

#PHILGORMLEY

Police Scotland Chief Constable Phil Gormley has not been interviewed about misconduct claims seven months after the allegations were first made, his wife said. Claire Gormley, herself

a former police officer, spoke out in defence of her husband, who is currently on a period of special leave.

@xam459 tweeted: “I’ve worked under Phil Gormley, an excellent cop, gentleman and honourable. Any who worked with him know this whole thing stinks.”

@paulhutcheon said: “Wow. That is some article by Phil Gormley’s wife this morning rounding on the investigation into her husband.”

@Steve_bridges tweeted: “At last, a positive article in support of Phil Gormley. Let’s have some more of this.”

#JACINDAARDERN

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon congratulated New Zealand’s prime minister Jacinda Ardern after she announced that she is expecting her first child in June.

@fury12 tweeted: “As our new Mama to be Prime Minister said, her “village” of Nzers will help her raise her baby and it certainly does take a village to raise a child.”

@Satine_88 said: “Lovely news re: a politician for once. So much bad news stories in the press these days. It’s nice to have a story that makes you smile. And great it’s a woman of power showing the job and children can be done.”
