Lee Fields and the Expressions
Veteran soul shouter Lee Fields, above, paid his dues in the 1970s, touring with the likes of Kool and the Gang, but languished commercially for years before being rediscovered by the rare groove fans who run Brooklyn’s Truth and Soul Records. With the backing of slick session soulsters the Expressions, he continues to rage hard in the southern R&B roots tradition. Dubbed “little JB” for his vocal debt to James Brown, he provided vocals for the Brown biopic Get On Up in 2014 and is set to be a Celtic Connections highlight in his own right.
