Kerr is ready to fight for Perth berth

-

Jason Kerr is looking forward to making an impact at St Johnstone after he was recalled from a loan spell with Queen of the South.

The defender has been backed by Saints manager Tommy Wright to make an impression in Perth having excelled during a six-month loan stint in Dumfries.

Kerr will spend the rest of the season back with St Johnstone and is determined to take his chance in the first team.

“If he’s willing to give me a chance it’s up to me to try and take it and do as best as I can,” said Kerr, pictured. “If we already have the youngsters here then there’s no need to bring anyone in, but I have to take my chance.

“I need to push myself and challenge for that centre-half spot.

“I know Joe [Shaughnessy], Ando [Steven Anderson] and Liam Gordon are all very good centre-halves and I need to do my best to try and get into the team. [But] I’ll be staying here until the end of the season to fight for my place. I have to focus on myself and do well.”

Weather permitting, Kerr will be part of the Saints squad travelling to Albion Rovers today for the fourth round of the Scottish Cup, and he is keen to enjoy a similar run to 2014, when the Perth side won it. “It’s good to have a run in the cup and we want to go as far as possible,” he added. “We won it a few years ago and everyone wants to do well.”
